Track and Field
Our athletes train at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Stadium, Cudworth on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm.
We can coach children/athletes from the age of 8 upwards.
Children/athletes will need to become a member of Barnsley AC within the first month of attending training.
Our Membership costs are on our website and are currently £28.00 per year (this includes England Athletics registration).
An additional track fee is also payable to Barnsley Premier Leisure (BPL), either per session or as part of a monthly BPL membership (this is for use of their track and not Barnsley AC charges).
Our athletes are expected to participate in age appropriate competitions throughout the season, especially the team competitions, as this actively supports both the athletes’ personal development and the clubs participation in the associated league(s). The competitions are fun, age appropriate and suit all abilities. To enter these events a club vests must be worn and these can be purchased from the club (see our Kit page).
All members/athletes have conditions to joining the club to ensure that we have no unnecessary waiting lists and that all athletes are given the chance to receive adequate coaching and training in preparation for the appropriate competitions.
There is an expectation that athletes will attend 50% of all training sessions and compete in at least 2 out of 4 of the YADAL matches (Year 6, U13s to Year 11, U17s). Anyone U17 and above is also expected to support the Northern Track & Field League, as appropriate.
Failure to support the required team competition events may result in withdrawal of coaching or membership.
Due to safeguarding requirements it is preferred that Parents/Guardians/Carers remain onsite whilst training takes place unless alternative arrangements are agreed in advance with the Coaching Staff, but this must be in exceptional circumstances. All children must be accompanied to the trackside at the start of each session and collected from the trackside at 8pm.
Athletics training generally continues throughout the year and in all weathers. Please make sure that your child comes adequately prepared for the conditions (i.e. warm clothes when the weather is cold – gloves, tracksuit and hat etc, and in cool clothes when the weather is warm – shorts and T-shirt). Children should wear trainers and have water available to drink (carbonated, fizzy drinks are not suitable). Running spikes are recommended but not essential.
Parents are also encouraged to get involved with the club where possible as this benefits your child and the club. As a club we are always looking for new members to support the club/committee, coaching staff and with officiating.
Thank you in advance for your support.
