Should you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact a member of the committee, the first point of call being the club secretary.
As a club we rely heavily on its members volunteering for various activities throughout the year. To co-ordinate this we have a range of working groups, one of which organises all the voluntary activities within the club. Please check in with this group to find out about opportunities and seriously consider getting involved as the more people we have willing to help the more things we can organise and offer.

How to become a Second Claim Athlete?
To become a second claim member to Barnsley AC, the individual athlete must be an active competitive athlete at another affiliated club and they must have already paid their England Athletics registration fee through their first claim club.
There is no registration fee charged by England Athletics for Second Claim Members. However, there is a charge of £10.00 (in line with 2024/25 membership fees) to become a Second Claim member of Barnsley AC.
What does this mean in practice?
When you join a running club, providing it is your only club, that is your first claim club. If you subsequently join another club, that will be your second claim club. You can race as an individual in open races for any club you are a member of. However, for league and championship races and to count as part of a scoring team, you have to compete for your first claim club, unless it is not affiliated to EA for that discipline, or is not participating in that league/event.
This system is primarily designed to stop elite athletes swapping from club to club regularly. If you compete in a race in which your First and Second Claim Clubs are in contention then you must represent your First Claim Club. If the competition does not offer a team prize, then you may compete for either club.
*If you are a new member who is a brand new person to the sport of athletics and have never been affilitated to EA or running club anywhere ever before, you are entitled to a 15-month registration term. This only applies to athletes who join your club during January to March. New athletes registered during this period will remain registered with EA up until the 31st March 2026.
If, however, you are joining Barnsley AC and you have previously been registered with England Athletics by another club and you subsequently join Barnsley AC, you would only be covered/registered until 31st March 2025. Afterwhich, you will have to pay your subscriptions again from 1st April 2025 and then onwards when the new registration year commences.
